The UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) defines Human Factors as the ‘environmental, organisational and job factors, and human and individual characteristics, which influence behaviour at work in a way which can affect health and safety’. Understanding how Human Factors influences human performance is increasingly important, and should be considered as a primary means of reducing and mitigating risk in the workplace.
At Blue Stream Consulting, we recognise that Human Factor interventions will not be effective if considered in isolation, rather human factors should be included within organisational safety management systems and High Reliability Organization thinking as a whole. These principles recognise the organizational and psychological factors that impact on the overall dependability of a workplace.
Our Organizational Psychologists will work with you to identify work areas that are less than optimally reliable, and will help identify solutions or interventions that will best close the gap between actual and expected safety performance.
